While this website is mostly for professionals, it includes a link called “Facts for Families”(En Español) which is a good place to search for information on a variety of topics from abuse and ADHD through violent behavior and violence on television.

American Association of Suicidology
This organization’s goal is to understand and prevent suicide. AAS serves as a national clearinghouse for information on suicide. In addition, it promotes research, public awareness programs, public education and training for professionals and volunteers. The website contains information about suicide and its prevention, information on research, crisis centers, support groups, training and upcoming events.

American Obesity Association
The American Obesity Association is the only obesity organization focused on changing public policy and perceptions about obesity. This organization has become an authoritative source for policy makers, media, professionals and patients on the obesity epidemic. Their programming areas include education, research, prevention, treatment, consumer protection and discrimination and stigma. Their website is full of useful information to professionals and consumers alike. Much of the content is available in Spanish.

Asperger Syndrome Information and Support
This website contains a wealth of information for families who have a member with Asperger’s Syndrome. It includes papers and articles, support group information, social skills, schools and camps, adult issues, conferences and much more.

Attachment Disorder Information and Support
This is the official website for the Association for Treatment and Training in the Attachment of Children. Attachment, the “give and take” relationship between a child and his or her parents or primary caregiver, is the foundation for a child’s health behavioral, social, emotional and neurological development. A healthy attachment teaches a person to trust and to form healthy relationships throughout his or her life. Children with attachment disorders typically are unable to trust or form healthy relationships with their parents or others. ATTACh is the international leader in the education and promotion of attachment theory and services. The organization recognizes and promotes health attachment and its critical importance to human development. This website includes the latest news in attachment research, plus a limited number of resources to use in learning about and/or treating children with attachment disorders.

Autism Society of America
This is the website of the Autism Society of America – an organization that claims to be the voice of the autism community. This organization promotes education, awareness and advocacy on critical autism-related issues. In addition to education and information about autism, the website includes lists of resources, including local resources and chapters. There are chapters listed from Cincinnati and Columbus, plus information on how to start your own chapter.

Bipolar Disorder Health Center from WebMD
This site is part of the popular WebMD website, an excellent resource for health-related information. This portion of the site addresses bipolar disorder, and offers information not found on other sites. It covers a variety of bipolar-related topics including tips for coping day to day, helping a loved one with bipolar disorder, and finding a doctor to treat bipolar disorder.

CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)
CHADD is the nation’s leading non-profit organization serving individuals with AD/HD and their families. With over 16,000 members in 200 local chapters, CHADD offers support for individuals, parents, teachers, professionals, and others. CHADD’s website includes information about AD/HD, support groups, online communities, conferences, and an online store where you can buy books and other learning materials.

This website contains much good information about the Choking Game. Facts, statistics, grief resources and downloadable brochures, handouts and flyers. This site was compiled by a mother whose son died as a result of this activity.

This independent non-profit organization evaluates services and programs to assure quality and the best possible outcomes. Its website includes listings of providers, free publications and educational opportunities. CARF is one of our accrediting organizations.

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (En Espanol)
The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance’s mission is simple: To improve the lives of people living with mood disorders. This organization is the nation’s leading patient-directed organization focusing on depression and bipolar disorder. Its website includes a broad range of information written for the general public. Brochures, research, and information on treatment resources are included.

Depression Screening (En Español)
Sponsored by the National Mental Health Association (NMHA), this website’s goal is to educate people about clinical depression, offer a confidential way for people to get screened for symptoms of the illness, and guide people toward appropriate professional help if necessary.

For Children
This website is for children who want to learn more about mental illness. A variety of topics are addressed, including depression, attention difficulties and disabilities. Co-sponsored by the Ohio Department of Mental Health, this site frequently links to mental health-related sites that are not geared to children.

For Teens
This website, Kids Health, is great for teens. Its colorful graphics and copy are created to appeal to teens. It covers a variety of topics ranging from healthy eating and eating disorders to depression and cutting. Much of the content is also available in Spanish. Also offers free subscriptions to an e-newsletter. This site is sponsored by The Nemours Foundation, part of the Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delaware.

NAMI – National Alliance on Mental Illness
NAMI is “the nation’s voice on mental illness.” NAMI has organizations in every state and in over a thousand communities in the U.S. The organization is dedicated to the support, education, advocacy and research for those living with mental illness. This user-friendly site contains information about mental disorders, treatment on various conditions, how to find support, and the recovery process. Also has information on finding a local NAMI group.

National Alliance for Hispanic Health
The National Alliance for Hispanic Health is the premier organization focusing on Hispanic Health. As the nation’s action, advocacy and research forum for Hispanic health and well being, this organization provides specific programs geared toward Hispanic consumers. Its website provides a wide range of health information in both English and Spanish, a listing of help lines and hotlines, publications, health news and more.

National Eating Disorders Association
The National Eating Disorders Association is the largest non-profit organization in the U.S. dedicated to eliminating eating disorders and body dissatisfaction. This is their website. It contains a broad range of information about eating disorders including the different types, treatment options, how to afford treatment, and the phone number for the organization’s Information and Referral Helpline.

National Inhalant Prevention Coalition
This organization’s goal is to promote awareness and recognition of inhalant use. In addition to providing educational resources, NIPC puts organizations and individuals in touch with the latest research, the best ideas and news of successful programs to enhance local efforts.

National Institute of Mental Health
This is the official website of the government’s National Institute of Mental Health. It includes the latest news on mental health conditions and research, plus information about the signs, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment for numerous mental disorders.

National Mental Health Association
This is the official website of the National Mental Health Association, the oldest and largest non-profit organization focusing on mental health and mental illness. It is consumer-oriented, and includes information on treatment resources and support groups, medication resources, and fact sheets on a variety of mental health topics. You can also request free email alerts on the latest mental health news releases, legislation, and headlines.

National Mental Health Information Center
This organization falls under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This is their official website. It includes information on children’s mental health, youth violence, managing anxiety, a wide variety of programs and information on a variety of mental health topics, including disaster/trauma, youth violence prevention, and children and families. Many resources are listed.

National Resource Center on AD/HD
Funded by CHADD and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Resource Center on AD/HD was created to meet the information needs of both professionals and the general public. It contains a wide variety of AD/HD-related information including information on parent education and training, rating scales and checklists, coexisting conditions, and medication management.

This site is a leading web community dedicated to providing high quality information, support and education to the family members, caregivers and individuals whose lives have been impacted by schizophrenia. The site includes daily news about schizophrenia, plus in-depth articles and resources. There are also links to over a dozen schizophrenia-related blogs, and Yale University’s Early Psychosis and Schizophrenia Screening Test.

Stop Bullying Now (En Español)
This site for kids includes information about being a bully, being bullied, and witnessing bully behavior. Written for kids, main sections include What Bullying Is, What You Can Do, and What Adults Can Do. The site also includes webisodes and podcasts about bullying scenarios, plus games to play. The Adult section includes information and resources about bullying, special information for parents and educators, plus a campaign to address this issue that includes public service announcements for newspapers, radio and TV, downloadable brochures and posters.

Suicide
This website was developed in Minneapolis by people who had lost loved ones to suicide. While the sponsoring organization (SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) serves primarily Minnesota, its website has much information about suicide. It includes basic information about suicide and depression, information about suicide prevention in children, friends, family and the elderly. It also includes a depression checklist, symptoms and danger signs of suicide, and how to cope with the loss following a loved one’s suicide. .

This site, created by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, is a one-stop resource for comprehensive information on issues related to alcohol abuse and binge drinking among college students. It includes statistics, brochures, classroom curriculum, the latest research, and information about alcohol and drinking.

For Middle School Students
This website, targeting middle school students, contains information about alcohol consumption, how alcohol affects you, and how to resist peer pressure.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving
This site includes stats and resources on drunk driving, plus much information on DWI/DUI laws, underage drinking research, and other issues related to MADD’s mission.

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
This organization provides national leadership in the effort to reduce alcohol-related problems. Its website contains much information about alcohol consumption and research, and a wide variety of pamphlets, brochures, and posters that you can download or order. Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration
This site is for people looking for help with either substance abuse or mental health problems. Buttons at the top of the site direct users to either the substance abuse help or mental health help areas of the site. Content is easy to understand and follow. Other topics on the site include a wealth of information on topics including HIV/AIDS & Hepatitis, homelessness, and criminal and juvenile justice.

National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
The mission of this division of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs is to advance the clinical care and social welfare of America's veterans through research, education and training in PTSD and stress-related disorders. This website includes information on related topics, publications and research.

National Child Traumatic Stress Network
This outstanding, comprehensive website is a collaboration among 70 member centers across the U.S. and is funded, in part, by a congressional initiative. This Network blends the academic best practices of clinical research with the wisdom of front-line community service providers. The result is a wealth of information, providing basic definitions to types of traumatic stress, brochures, reading lists, and information specifically for parents and caregivers, schools, the media and mental health professionals. The site also includes information on how to get help for a child, facts and figures, and available web-based training, training videos and much more.

Trauma and Abuse Support: The Wounded Healer Journal
This website claims to be the web's oldest support site for those who have experienced trauma and abuse. It includes crisis resources, discussion forums, resources, and FAQs. This site is managed by volunteers, and could be helpful and supportive to someone suffering from trauma and abuse.
